Associate H2S Technician

Purpose statement:

Reporting directly to the  Operations Manager, the H2S technician will assist in the operation and maintenance of breathing air safety systems and gas detection systems at client sites (onshore and offshore).

Responsible for:

Ensuring H2S work activities are carried out correctly, safely and in line with client specific requirements including site QHSE requirements.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Assist in the rigging up and rig down of the breathing air safety system and gas detection system

  • Assist in operation and maintenance of gas detection systems, breathing air compressors (diesel and electric) and breathing air safety system and equipment 

  • Complete Total Safety and client specific reports, maintenance records and logs

  • Calibrate gas detectors

  • Placement of breathing apparatus and gas detection in suitable locations

  • Complete daily, weekly and monthly inspections on equipment and carry out maintenance and servicing as required on breathing air equipment

  • Assist in H2S drills

  • Assist with permit approval and sign off of documentation as required by the client
  • Assist in the ordering of spares required for service and maintenance of breathing air safety system and gas detection system

  • To ensure as far as is reasonably practicable, ensure personal health and safety, health and safety of others.

  • Comply with the client’s site QHSE requirements at all times and take part in induction training as required

  • Participate in Total Safety QHSE awareness events and contribute to the improvement of the QHSE Management System.

Measurement criteria

  • Competency assessments and observations to confirm work activities carried out in line with TS-PM042 - SOPs for Technicians.

  • Correctly completion of TS-F168 - System Commissioning Forms.

  • Up to date training records / certificates relating to breathing air system equipment training courses.

  • Competency assessments and observations to confirm work activities carried out in line with TS-PM042 - SOPs for Technicians.

  • Correctly completed reports, maintenance records and logs.

  • Up to date training records / certificates relating to breathing air system equipment training courses.

  • Competency assessments and observations to confirm work activities carried out in line with TS-PM042 - SOPs for Technicians.

  • Up to date training records / certificates relating to gas detector inspection and calibration.

  • Competency assessments and observations to confirm work activities carried out in line with TS-PM042 - SOPs for Technicians.

  • Correctly completed reports, maintenance records and logs.

  • Up to date training records / certificates relating to breathing air system equipment training courses.

  • Competency assessments and observations to confirm work activities carried out in line with TS-PM042 - SOPs for Technicians.
    Completed drill reports and permits.

  • Competency assessments and observations to confirm work activities carried out in line with TS-PM042 - SOPs for Technicians.

  • Correctly completed TS-F152 - Spares Request Forms.

  • Compliance with the requirements of the QOHSE management system

  • Employee should contact his/her line manager with any concerns regarding QOHSE requirements

  • Completion of QOHSE training courses as required for the role 

  • Involvement in client QHSE training programmes, events and reporting of any issues, accidents, incidents or near misses.

  • Involvement in QOHSE events

  • Completion and submission of TS-F059 - HSEQ Observation Cards

  • Involvement in QHSE committee meetings

  • Involvement in TS-F600 - Behavioural Safety Observations

When it is considered necessary or appropriate by management you may be required to carry out any duties considered within your skill and competence to assist the smooth running of the business.

Qualifications and skills

  • Good working knowledge of MS Office, in particular Word and Excel

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively and confidently communicate and present training courses and associated information

  • Good knowledge of products and services provided by Total Safety (including use and servicing knowledge)

  • Trained and competent breathing apparatus technician
  • Trained and competent gas detection technician
  • Trained and competent in the use of breathing air compressors
  • Fit to Fit certified
  • Trained and competent in the use and maintenance of cascade breathing air system
  • Able to work alone or as part of a team
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to multi-task
  • Current BOSEIT and offshore medicals
  • Current passport

Physical and additonal requirements

  • Willing to travel to worldwide to onshore or offshore work locations

  • The ability to wear PPE correctly for a portion of the working day

  • Ability to work in all weather conditions

  • Ability to spend a number of hours a day standing to carry out work activities

  • Ability to carry out shift work patterns (long working hours, day and night shifts)

  • Ability to work in noisy workplaces (e.g. when visiting client sites)

  • Ability to work in hazardous environments

  • Ability to see and response to dangerous situations

  • Ability to carry out manual handling operations

  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces

  • Confined space training (desirable)

  • Working at heights training (desirable)

  • Leg entry working training (desirable)
